The Light of the Moon

Full Moon

Glowing

Ball of light

Watches over

The earth

Tonight

Its golden color

Shines like a strobe

On the dance floor

Its presence felt

From every direction

But like a child

At an amusement park

It doesn’t know what to do first

Playing tricks on our eyes

In a game of

Hide and seek

Appearing one

Moment above

The mountains

The next moment

Disappearing from

View

Yet there is more to a full moon than meets the eye

A night when people with every type of neuroses

Come out to play

The full moon witnesses this practical joke

Doubled over in

Spasmic laughter.

Nightfall

As the sun sinks below the horizon for its nightly rest

The sky slips off her blue cloak,

To reveal a gown of white

with shimmers

Of pink and orange.

The nightly ball begins,

With the golden moon as host.

Before long the silvery stars arrive,

One by One,

To dance the night away,

With the ocean’s waves providing the music,

A pattern of crawling toward shore and receding

As the evening progresses,

The sky changes

Gowns again,

This time—dark blue,

With a hint of black.

The dance continues all night,

Every night,

Until the sun wakes itself from its long slumber

And the moon and stars disappear from sight,

As the sky dons her blue cloak

To begin a new day.
